Mortgage interest rates have recently experienced a notable decline, reaching their lowest levels in over a year. As of August 8, 2024, the average interest rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage is reported at 6.47%, down from a peak earlier in the year. This drop is attributed to several factors:

Federal Reserve Expectations: 

There is a growing anticipation that the Federal Reserve will begin cutting interest rates, particularly following a weaker-than-expected jobs report. This has led to a decrease in yields for 10-year Treasury bonds, which closely influence mortgage rates.

Market Reactions: 

The financial markets have reacted to the Fed's signals regarding potential rate cuts, prompting a reevaluation of future interest rates. Experts believe that the recent jobs report may indicate a broader economic trend, influencing expectations for a "soft landing" where inflation normalizes without triggering a recession.

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest that mortgage rates may continue to decline, assuming the Fed implements rate cuts as expected.
